candy-toss-branded-updated2019 CANDY TOSS PARADE GRAND MARSHALL | KAREN TAUZIN

Karen Tauzin was born and raised in New Iberia where she still calls it “HOME”, 46 years later. She can never imagine living anywhere else except THE BERRY!!! Being active in the community is her passion. The history, culture, and the people here make it a place that anyone would love to reside. Karen is the Executive Secretary at The Iberia Parish Airport Authority located at Acadiana Regional Airport. She works with the state and federal government on grants to better the airport which in turns betters our community.

At the age of three years old Karen lost her father, watching her angel of a mother raise three small children on her own made her the person she is today. Family, friends, and faith are everything to her! She has been blessed with many special people in her life but her biggest blessing has to be her only son T.J. who is now 24 years old. He is married to her beautiful daughter-in-law, Hailey, and has a God sent miracle granddaughter named Ava Joyce who is nineteen months old. There is no love like a grandchild’s love according to Karen. She has also been blessed with an amazing man and his three precious children who walked into her life at the perfect time. In Karen’s eyes God has a plan for us all, so we must trust him!

She has many memories of her childhood during the Sugarcane Festival weekends. Her fondest memory was when the fair was located on the grounds of the airport where she works daily. Through the years locations have changed but the memories still hold true! Karen has participated in the Children’s and Queen’s parades for many years dancing with Franny’s, Kay’s, and NISH Jackette’s. The art of dance has always been a part of her life and still is today. She continues to entertain the community marching with the infamous Berry Queens of New Iberia. Karen joined the queens in 2014, and with her real southern roots and love for her state, she is known as Queen “LOU-Z-ANA GURL”. She was crowned Her Royal Hi-Ness 2018 last September, and this past year has been an honor for her to serve and represent all the queens in the community. Karen has made lifelong friendships in the past five years and she is so grateful.

Karen volunteers countless hours to many community organizations here in New Iberia. She is a member of the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival Association, board member of the Optimist Club, past member of the Chamber of Commerce, served as Community Advocate for Chez Hope, past member of the Downtown Business Association, delivery driver for Solomon House Food Bank, serves monthly at St. Francis Diner, and participates in fundraisers for Iberia Habitat For Humanity.

Karen is very dedicated to helping the community and the people in it. Staying true to her roots and beliefs, she strives to continue serving her home town, “THE BERRY”. Like the old saying goes…There’s no place like home!!
