berry2018 CANDY TOSS PARADE GRAND MARSHALL | LISA DUHE LOURD

Lisa Duhe Lourd was raised in New Iberia by a three-generation sugar cane farming family. Like many young people in the 1980’s she left New Iberia seeking greener pastures. Life’s adventures took her to Florida, Minnesota, then finally Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Lisa raised her son Taylor in the picture-perfect golfing community of Hilton Head, yet felt there was something missing. A trip home to her NISH 20-year class reunion in 2001 brought reconnected friendships, a new romance with high school classmate Tutu Lourd and a realization of the unique sense of community here in New Iberia.

Tutu & Lisa were married in New Iberia in 2011 in an elegant old family home and settled in the heart of New Iberia, historic Main Street. Lisa dove right in to her community and was accepted into the 2016 Leadership Iberia program. She is also a board member of the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival Association where she serves as Co-Chair of the highly successful Stars of Style fundraiser which has aided tremendously in the rejuvenation of the beloved Sugar Cane Festival. She is a founding member of Teche Classic Movies, sits on the board of the Parich Foundation and Iberia Habitat for Humanity and considers herself a passionate promoter of all things positive in New Iberia! Her love of her hometown naturally led to becoming a Realtor with the respected brokerage, Van Eaton & Romero.

Lisa joined The Berry Queens of New Iberia, volunteering countless hours to many community organizations and projects while raising funds for Iberia Habitat for Humanity. Lisa had the honor of being nominated and selected Her Royal Hi-Ness Queen of The Berry in 2017.

September has always meant the first “cool snap”, local businesses decorating with sugar cane and Festival time! Some of Lisa’s fondest festival memories are of marching in the Children’s and Queen’s parades as a child, eating cotton candy and playing the duck game at the street fair!

Lisa is loyal to her community, passionately dedicated to the betterment of that community, and most of all, relishes being home again, surrounded by her family and friends where she remains steadfast and true to her roots.
